Many Muslims give extensively during Ramadan. I’m listing a few places I give to, in no particular order. They are not all zakat eligible, but I look for values-aligned giving as well.

Anikaya

A great multi-cultural dance company that does important work around the world.

Interfaith Center of New York

The Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) is a secular non-profit organization with a mission to “overcome prejudice, violence, and misunderstanding by activating the power of the city’s grassroots religious and civic leaders and their communities.”

Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign

Our multifaith coalition was founded on the notion that anti-Muslim discrimination is not just a “Muslim issue” but a problem that impacts us all. If religious communities and people of faith in the United States are connected, equipped, and mobilized to address, counter and prevent anti-Muslim hatred, discrimination, and violence, we will build a more inclusive and pluralistic nation where people of all faiths and cultural backgrounds are treated respectfully, fairly, and with dignity.

Mipsterz

An arts and culture collective curating, enabling, and amplifying creators of marginalized backgrounds through sound, film, and visual art.

Believers Bail Out

Believers Bail Out (BBO) is a community-led effort to bail out Muslims in pretrial incarceration and ICE custody. Based in Chicago, home to the largest single-site jail in the United States, Believers Bail Out supports efforts to abolish money bail and to raise awareness within Muslim communities on the injustices of the bail bond system, immigration bonds, and the broader prison-industrial complex of which they form part. Our aim is to move towards a world rooted in accountability and healing, rather than punitive responses of the police and prisons. We seek to create sustainable change in our society by focusing on three major areas of concern: the prison-industrial complex, anti-Muslim racism, and anti-Blackness.

Aga Khan Development Network

The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is dedicated to improving the quality of life of those in need, mainly in Asia and Africa, irrespective of their origin, faith, or gender. Our multifaceted development approach aims to help communities and individuals become self-reliant.

Masjid al-Rabia — Closed as of January 2024. Looking for alternatives.

An Islamic community that centers spiritual care for marginalized (Black, LGBTQ+, Disabled, and currently incarcerated) Muslims with healing justice practices in mind.

Through outreach, education, and advocacy initiatives, we’ve created a faith-justice space that is safe and affirming for Muslims.

IMAN

The Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) is a community organization that fosters health, wellness and healing in the inner-city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts, and operating a holistic health center.

Women’s Mosque of America

The Women’s Mosque of America seeks to uplift the Muslim community by empowering women and girls through more direct access to Islamic scholarship and leadership opportunities. The Women’s Mosque of America provides a safe space for women to feel welcome, respected, and actively engaged within the Muslim Ummah. It complements existing mosques, offering opportunities for women to grow, learn, and gain inspiration to spread throughout their respective communities.

Muslim ARC

MuslimARC has addressed the intersections of Anti-Black Racism and Islamophobia through regular programming in Detroit and Southern California and providing regular virtual building spaces and member-led gatherings.

HEART

To promote sexual health, uproot gendered violence, and advance reproductive justice by establishing choice and access for the most impacted Muslims.
